Thoughts on Therapy

The decision to begin therapy isn't easy.  I believe that it is my responsibility to help you understand how therapy works, so that you can more fully integrate the coping skills we might discuss. Therapy is most effective when you can build a trusting professional relationship with the therapist, and therefore this is my top priority.  We will work together to create that trust so that you can increase self-awareness and make positive steps towards change - change that you determine.  Some of the key interventions I use are mindfulness (teaching you how to be aware of the present moment to decrease reactivity), thought re-framing, and yoga-informed techniques such as deep breathing and specific yoga poses that may help with difficult emotions.
